McKay Snow: The Comeback Kid

ALTON, VI (August 26th, 2017)- After a heartbreaking weekend at Road America McKay Snow is back and better than with two poles and a second place finish in The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama at Virginia International Raceway.

“The races at Road America gave me a taste of what the front feels like and I wanted more,” Snow said. “Since then we dialed in and added some tests to get me more comfortable in the car. I wanted to make sure I was more prepared than ever for this weekend.”

As the teams unloaded and testing started on Thursday it was clear Snow’s hard work paid off. He put down lap-after-fast lap in sessions one and two, parking the car in first place.

“As soon as I hit the track for the official start of the weekend I knew the Wright boys had given me a podium car,” Snow said. “VIR has always been one of my favorite tracks, and the ideal weather conditions mixed with a near perfect setup helped give me the confidence I need to put down some fast laps.”

Returning to the track Saturday morning Snow buckled down and went to work as the green flag flew for the twenty-minute qualifying session. Snow put down two nearly identical laps cinching him a career best pole start for both rounds 11 and 12 at VIR.

Just a few short hours later engines were roaring and cars were rolling for the start of race 1. Following an impressive start, Snow wasted no time pulling away from the field, extending his lead to over eight seconds with six laps to go.

“All I could think was drive clean and you’ve got this,”Snow said, “and then Johnny (Wright) came on the radio to let me know there was a full course caution and to pack up.”

Holding strong in first place, Snow prepared for a green, white, checkered. However, aggressive driving by the Sebastian Landy in the No. 49 Alex Job car pushed Snow back into second place where he would finish the race.

“It certainly wasn’t the results I was looking for after such a good run, but a podium is still a podium,” Snow says. “If anything this makes me hungrier for that win tomorrow.

Snow currently sits eighth in the championship but is separated from fourth by only 10 points, building pressure as the season comes to a close.
